This week I have three stories for you. Let’s get started.

Google’s Android is expanding… to a new carrier! Google and Verizon have announced that there will be two new Android phones (on Verizon’s network, of course) later in 2009. Neither part has yet to announce who the manufacturer(s) of the phones or show them off, but it is rumored to be Motorola and HTC. This was bound to happen eventually due to the relatively recent addition of CDMA support in the Android OS. Verizon also said that there will eventually be more phones, as well as Android netbooks down the line. More importantly, if Verizon and Google do this right; this could significantly expand the Android market base, since Verizon is the largest carrier in the US. They have more subscribers that T-Mobile and Sprint combined. Even better, Verizon is well known for having a great data network. Now all Google has to do is figure out how to get better battery life!

Think Mac users are all Mac, all the time? Think again. A recent survey from the HPD group shows that 85% of Mac owners also own Windows. This really isn’t that surprising since it’s so easy to run both Mac OS X and Windows on the same machine. It makes sense since there are still so many apps (mostly enterprise) that only run on Windows, or you simply get a better experience (like Outlook, but that’s going to change soon enough). And it’s even easier when you run Parallels or VM Ware Fusion. So, just remember; Most Mac users, never really “switch”.

Facebook design refreshment in the works

Facebook is making more “improvements”. That’s right, it’s time for another Facebook redesign! This time Facebook isn’t actually changing that much. The “Publisher” update status box is going away, and being replaced with a much smaller “Update Status” button, which will display the “publisher” box when clicked. It’s kind of closer to Facebook light’s look out layout, but still has all the features and apps of normal Facebook. Even though this change is pretty minor, expect to see a crazy petition protesting it. Isn’t that almost protocol every time Facebook makes a design change?

That’s it for this week, see you next time, right here at The iLife.
