The Roundup: Week of September 25th, 2009
25 09 2009Welcome back everyone, to another edition of “The Roundup”!

This week I’m talking about MSS on your iPhone (Finally!), Pushing your Gmail to your iPhone for free, and watching Hulu with your friends, virtually. Take a look, after the jump.
This week I have three stories for you. Let’s get started.

AT&T announces time for iPhone MMS availability Friday
Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Are you tired of your friends and family attempting to send you pictures from their “dumbphones” to your iPhone (from AT&T), and having to go through the hassle of clicking on a link to view them? Well, you won’t have to deal with that any longer! Starting today, you can check iTunes for a firmware update that will enable MSS. AT&T will start sending text messages at 10AM EST to iPhone’s to let them know that they can now receive MSS. So, be on the lookout. It is however, kind of pathetic that it took this long for AT&T to get MSS working, since every single other carrier who has the iPhone has supported MSS for months. Oh, and legit tethering? Still no announced date for its release.

Push Gmail for iPhone and Windows Mobile
Tuesday, September 22, 2009

I’ve talked about my preferred way of getting my Google contacts and calendar onto my iPod Touch, Nuevasync, in the past. I’ve also talked about its main competitor straight from Google, Google Sync. Now, Google has finally given me a reason to switch. Push Gmail. What does this mean? Now, I get my Gmail messages within seconds whenever I am online (for me and my iPod touch, this means Wi-Fi), instead of having to wait 15 minutes for my touch to check all my mail accounts. Nuevasync has had this feature for a while, but they offer it as a premium service for $25 a year. The only disadvantage to using either of these services, is that your battery life will not last at long. I’ll live; I just want my email faster!

Hulu’s Facebook App: Posse Up for the Heroes Premiere
Sunday, September 20, 2009

Tired of watching Hulu all by yourself? Still want to get the instant feedback of other viewers, and reading old twitter search results just doesn’t cut it? Well, now you can watch Hulu with other Facebook users using it new Watch Now Facebook App. The app allows you to watch Hulu videos alongside a stream of other Facebook users who are using the app. You can also narrow down the stream to your friends who are also using the app. Of course, each comment you make also updates your Facebook status. I think that this could be implemented much better. I like how CBS has viewing rooms on their recent videos, when you can join a group of people all watching the same video in sync and chat with them. That way, you can get the true group effect, online.
That’s it for this week, see you next time, right here at The iLife.
