Palm Pre Review
Wednesday, June 3, 2009

Well, the embargoes have been lifted, and the Palm Pre reviews are out! Reviews so far are initially good, with the screen, WebOS being some of the best features, and the battery life being, ok. Reviews have stated that it could be better and only lasts about a day. Barely. Luckily, you can change it, and a extra battery is only $50. That doesn’t make up for the not-so-great battery life; it just makes it a bit more bearable. Hopefully, better power management could come in a firmware update and make the batter life a bit better. The Palm Pre will be released tomorrow, June 6th, for $199 (after a $100 Mail in rebate) from Sprint Stores, and other select locations. And, I can’t wait to get my hands on one. Good thing I’m already a Sprint customer!

Windows 7: Coming to a PC Near You on October 22nd
Tuesday, June 2, 2009

Microsoft has finally announced that Windows 7 will show up on PC’s from OEM’s (like HP, and Dell), and on store shelves on October 22nd. We already know it would be out in time for the 2009 holiday season, and with this date almost every new computer sold will have Windows 7. Microsoft is expected to announce an upgrade program, where new computers sold from OEM’s shortly before the release date of Windows 7, much like they did when Windows Vista was announced. As always, Microsoft can always delay the shipment, and that would be out of the normal. I have had a chance to play around with both the beta and the release candidate, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the real thing.

Google Squared goes live with mixed results
Wednesday, June 3, 2009

Google Squared has gone public. You can now visit google.com/squared and put data in a spreadsheet like format or Square. The square allows easy comparison among data points, which doesn’t always work that well. It an interesting concept, but that’s why it’s in labs. Hopefully Google’s engineers can perfect it, and then fine a real good use for it.
That’s it for this week, see you next time, right here at The iLife.
