Disney Comes to Hulu
Thursday, April 30, 2009

Disney, the owners of ABC, have announced that they will put shows from ABC’s prime-time lineup like “Lost,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Private Practice,” on Hulu, as well as shows from ABC Daytime and SOAPnet. There will also be a select number of programs from the Disney Channel and library titles from Disney. The only major network who doesn’t have their content on Hulu is CBS, who owns TV.com (they acquired the domain when they bought CNET). Hulu is becoming bigger and bigger, and is clearly the place for watching TV episodes online.

Apple May Be Immune to Economy, But Stores Aren’t
Friday, April 24, 2009

Apple has had a great 1st quarter, but everything isn’t completely up. Apple stores have has a bit of a struggle, like most retail stores. The Average revenue per apple store went down 17 percent. So, in order to “balance things out” Apple will layoff 1,600 full times employees, which is about 10% of its workforce. All in all, expect less Apple store openings.

Amazon Acquires Stanza, an E-Book Application for the iPhone
Monday, April, 27, 2009

Amazon has purchased the e-book application for the iPhone, Stanza. well really, the developer, Lexcycle. It has not been announced if Stanza will incorporate the Amazon Kindle store or the kindle file format. In a blog post, Lexcycle said, “We are not planning any changes in the Stanza application or user experience as a result of the acquisition. Customers will still be able to browse, buy, and read e-books from our many content partners.” But that only rules out removing features, not adding them. Either way, its nice to be able to see the possibilities.
That’s it for this week, see you next time, right here at The iLife.
