“Skype for iPhone now live in US” and “Skype For iPhone Now Available in the US, Has VoIP over 3G With 3.0 Firmware”
Monday, March 30 and Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Skype has released their highly anticipated iPhone application. The app was announced earlier in the week and was released a few minutes early, just before midnight EDT on March 30th. People who were using the app found out that you were able to make calls over 3G if they were running the iPhone 3.0 Beta. Everyone else is stuck to only over wi-fi. Call quality was reported to be as good or better than normal cell connection when calling over wi-fi. It’s currently the number one free app in the app store, and TechCrunch has reported that the Skype app has been downloaded over one million times in two days. Click here to jump into the app store and download it, if you haven’t already (iTunes Required). I;ve downloaded it and played around with it a little, and the GUI looks really nice. I have not made a call since I only have an iPod touch, but from reports form other people, it sounds pretty good. Skype says they will also have a video feature, eventually.

Replies Are Now Mentions
Monday, March 30, 2009
![]()
Twitter has replaced the @replies page with @you, also known @mentions. Instead of only displaying tweets that begin with your username, it will also show tweets that have your username anywhere in the message. This page will show up on your sidebar where @replies used to be, but it will now say @”you”, where “you” is your username. For example, mine would say @kjhobin, The iLife’s account would say @theilife. This feature was first introduced the the powertwitter firefox extension.
Don’t For get to follow The iLife on twitter, so you can always be notified of new articles! http://twitter.com/theilife
