Welcome back everyone, to another edition of “The Roundup”!

theilife roundup 300x212 The Roundup: Week of April 17th, 2009

This week I’m talking about a new worm on Twitter, The U.S.’s biggest talk show host is about to join Twitter (and possibly take it fully mainstream), Amazon’s search delisting “glitch”, and the Palm Pre might be here soon than you think. Take a look, after the jump.

This week I have four stories for you. Let’s get started.

twitter The Roundup: Week of April 17th, 2009

Mikeyy Mooney, A 17 year old from Brooklyn has found a Cross Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Twitter. Instead of just informing Twitter, he decided it would be more fun to take advantage of it and hijack users accounts, which then sent out messages like “Dude, www.StalkDaily.com is awesome. What’s the fuss?”, which then infected more users. Reports are that it does not store your password, but that doesn’t mean its not a good idea to change it if you think you have been infected. Don’t forget to delete all of the fake tweets too. At worst, this worm is designed to annoy, and unfortunately, it works if your anywhere close to being an active twitter user.

Oprah’s First Tweet Will Be Tomorrow On Her Show. Soccer Moms To Take Over The Service?
Thursday, April 16, 2009

oprah twitter1 300x185 The Roundup: Week of April 17th, 2009

Oprah announced on her talk show on Thursday that she has taken control of her Twitter user name (@Oprah), and she will begin tweeting today (Friday) during her live show. Therefore, everyone is expecting to have a huge influx of new users, especially middle aged women; you know the type, who will do anything that Oprah does? And, even though she has no updates yet, she already has a massive twitter following, just during the writing of this article, she has increased her following by over 8,000. And, to celebrate her new Twitter account, Oprah will have Ashton Kutcher (@aplusk , the current user with the most followers), and Twitter CEO Evan Williams (@ev), and possibly Larry King (@kingsthings?), representing CNN (@CNNbrk, the account with the second most followers, and @CNN). The real question is, will the new influx of followers dilute the usefulness of Twitter, and actually make/force the early adopter onto a new service?

Update: Oprah has sent out her first tweet:

HI TWITTERS . THANK YOU FOR A WARM WELCOME. FEELING REALLY 21st CENTURY .

In her tweets after that, she has remembered to turn off caps lock.

Amazon Deems LGBT Books Too ‘Adult’ For Search, Best Seller Lists

Why Is Amazon Removing The Sales Rankings From Gay, Lesbian Books?
Sunday, April 12, 2009

amazon logo 299x88 The Roundup: Week of April 17th, 2009

Amazon.com has a bit of a “glitch” this week where anything that was remotely close to having themes of LGBT non-erotic romance, such as LGBT romance novels and parenting books, had their sales rank striped, and were therefore excluded from search results. The real kicker was that anything that had “traditional” romance themes was kept in the search results, like The Sex and the City Movie, and a memoir or a straight stripper (but not one of a gay stripper). The problem appears to be that someone mistook “sexual themes” to be “adult” and that got them to be off the search rankings. Amazon said that they are curtly trying to rectify the situation.

Sprint employees now training with the Palm Pre?
Friday, April 10, 2009

pre 05 300x250 The Roundup: Week of April 17th, 2009

The Palm Pre may come out sooner than you think! There are reports that Sprint employees are now being trained about the Palm Pre, and there is also reports that Sprint has put a vacation block on the month of May (meaning no one can take off, and all hands on deck; much like AT&T did during both of the iPhone releases). So, all these signs point to soon! I just hope the Pre is all that its hyped up to be.

Oh, and in news that no one really cares about: CNN Aston Kutcher, and Britney Spears, are having a race to 1 million followers on Twitter, and Aston is in the lead, and is expected to win the whole thing, probably before this article is published. At the time of writing, the race is still ongoing. If you care enough to keep tabs on the race, check out tweetrace.com.

Update: Aston won, as predicted, by about 2,000 followers. CNN has also passed the million follower mark. See: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13515_3-10221785-26.html

That’s it for this week, see you next time, right here at The iLife.
