Apple’s iPhone App Refund Policies Could Bankrupt Developers
Wednesday, March 25, 2009

There is now risk involved in having a pay app in the Apple iPhone app store. Apple has announced that not only are they going to be delay payments of app sales in the iPhone / iPod Touch app store to developers, but they will also be having app developers refund 100% of the purchase price to consumers if they request a refund within 90 days of purchase. At first look, you might think that this would make sense, but your probably forgetting that app developers are only receiving 70% of the purchase price of an app, not 100%. The remaining 30% goes directly to Apple, for “hosting and credit card processing” and such. Now, every time someone requests a refund, developers will have to put out more money then they received from sales. To me, this just seems like a great way to alienate developers and send them looking for better, more friendly, places to sell their apps; instead of Apple’s restrictive app store.

Last.fm Radio Announcement
Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Last.fm has announced that they will will be charging €3 per month for access to their streaming radio service in all countrys’ except the US, the UK, and Germany. Speculation as to the new charge is that Last.fm is not making as much money in countrys other than the US, UK, and DE, and can not cover the licensing fees for the songs they stream. Either way, expect the international usage of last.fm to drop, people love their free streaming.

Looky Here! Actual Revenue for Twitter, Courtesy of Microsoft.
Wednesday, March 25; and Monday, March 23, 2009.
Twitter has finally earned a buck! Twitter has announced that they will soon be releasing Pro accounts for companies, which will give them access to more features. What those features are, are not known yet. However, it is important to note that there will always be free accounts for businesses, you will only have to pay if you want the extra features. Twitter has also teamed up with Federated Media and Microsoft to launch ExecTweets, a listing of business executives on twitter. We all knew stuff like this was going to come eventually, twitter can’t live off VC funding forever.
