Facebook Reverts Back To Old Terms Of Service

facebookterms 300x106 The Roundup: Week of February 20th, 2009

After the great terms of service fiasco, Facebook has reverted back to the terms before the change. The change would have introduced new language that would have giver Facebook the ability to own your information indefinitely, and do anything they wanted with it, even if you deleted your account. Due to the mass vocalization of Facebook user about the new terms, Facebook first reverted back to the old ones, and then promised that it would be creating a new version who’s language isn’t as broad. Facebook claimed that all they would do was be able to still displayed some of your content, like messages and posts on other’s walls, but the language was just to broad. I’m glad that they are creating another new version because even if they had some philosophy, if they ever got bot out with these terms, what could happen with my information could change, and Facebook could become something more evil, like a mass directory service, that you can’t opt out of.

Apple: Jailbreaking is illegal

apple logo The Roundup: Week of February 20th, 2009

Apple has asked the 2009 DMCA triennial rulemaking committee to make a ruling declaring that jail breaking be illegal. Apple is currently facing opposition form the EFF, who deems jail breaking fair use. Apple’s reasoning behind this is that jail breaking compromises user safety and security. I personally think this is all bullshit and it’s just Apple trying to twist the law into protecting them from having users hacking around the app store, deriding Apple’s revenue stream from the app store, among other things. Jail breaking can only lead to more functionally and invitations for end users.

htcmagicandroidg2 300x194 The Roundup: Week of February 20th, 2009

A new Android phone has been announced! HTC has unveiled the HTC Magic, also know as the Android G2. It will have a 3.2 mega pixel camera, wi-fi (b/g), video recording, and more. The main difference between the Magic and the Dream (G1) is that the Magic will not have a slide out keyboard (on screen only). It’s a bit smaller than the iPhone in length and width, and a bit thicker. The Magic will be available on Vodaphone , with a release date not yet announced.

That’s it for now! See you next week, right here on The iLife.

Thank you for noticing! This week was a bit of a rush job because I had a bunch of other projects to take care of.
