Apple Media Advisory [AKA: Steve Jobs is going on medial leave!]
Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Apple’s CEO just can’t stay out of the news can he? After Steve reporting last week that he had a hormone imbalance and its under control, he has new sent out an email, which has also been posted on the Apple web site, to all Apple Employees stating “my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.” He then continued saying that he is going to be on medical leave until the end of June, and that Tim Cook will be responsible for handling the day-to-day stuff, but that Steve will still be around for “major strategic decisions”. While I’m sure that Steve is having trouble with his health, could this also be a test run for when Jobs retires?

Apple planning to switch tradeshow focus to CES?
Friday, January 9, 2009

Everyone knows that this year was Apples last at Macworld, but now there are rumors that they may just switch over to CES, where they can directly compete against rivals like Microsoft. This does sound a little funny to me since there whole reason for pulling out of Macworld was because their stores get just as many people in a day as Macworld, and then they don’t have to have something to released every January, they can do it on their own schedule.

Carol Bartz Joins Yahoo! as Chief Executive Officer
Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Jerry Yang is gone from Yahoo! and his replacement? Carol Bartz, formally from Autodesk (makes of AutoCAD, Inventor, Maya, 3DS Max, among other programs). She may not have a lot of Internet and web 2.0 experience, but we’re probably going to see a bunch of changes to Yahoo. For more information, check out this post by Kara Swisher at Boomtown.

Besides the change in leadership at Yahoo,we also have a change in leadership in the FCC, and this one is right on schedule, along with the upcoming inauguration of president-elect Obama. He was the Chairman of the Technology, Media and Telecommunications policy working group that created the Obama Technology and Innovation Plan. He also advised and guided the Obama campaign’s innovative use of technology and the Internet for grassroots engagement and participation. And, Lucky for us, he supports Net Neutrality!

Palm Pre Might Not Be Priced Into Oblivion After All
Monday, January 12, 2009

We have more pricing information on pricing rumors for Palm’s new smartphone, the Pre. Last week, we reported that it was rumored to cost over $200. Then a Russian blogger reported that it would be $299 or $499. Well, the thing is, he forgot to mention that, those prices are before a contract discount. With a 2-year agreement, the prices might be $149 or $199. Also rumored is that there will only be 200,000 units made during the inital production run, because they cant manufacture the Pre’s screen hardware fast enough. The Pre wil be avaiable sometime in the first half of 2009, on Sprint.

Best Buy to get the Palm Pre exclusively?
Thursday, January 15, 2009

Best Buy may be getting an exclusive agreement to sell the Pre, along with Sprint Stores. Why is this a good idea for Sprint, and Palm? Because according to CrunchGear, whenever BestBuy gets an exclusive on a item, they almost double their amount of advertising for the product; helping both Palm and Sprint create a lot of buzz, with out cutting into their profits.
